How to score 800 in CUET?: A Journey by an SRCC Student

Hello everyone! I’m Shashank, currently a student at Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), and today, I want to share some personal insights on achieving success in the CBSE Board Exams and the Central Universities Entrance Test (CUET). Having walked the path from high school exams to one of India’s top commerce colleges, I hope my experiences and strategies will help you as you embark on your own academic journey.

Here is a bit of background about me, which I think will be a motivator for everyone reading this. I’ve always been decent at studies, scoring 90+ consistently throughout, but I was never THE top scorer. I slacked off in 11th grade and scored a measly 78%. In the middle of 12th grade, I realised that things had gotten real and I needed to focus.

I consistently spent 8+ hours each day with it going up to 12 hours ‌sometimes for about 3 months(Dec-Feb). This helped me build a solid foundation for the board exams, where I ended up scoring 96+. Then came CUET, the real hurdle. I practised mock tests consistently and ended up scoring 800/800 with an AIR 16 in B.Com(H). So I’d just like to say that, anyone can achieve anything with enough determination.

Practicing MCQs was the hardest part in Boards as there was a dearth of good resources. Cost was especially a factor, and most good resources were comprehensive with long answers and not MCQs. Whereas, for students like me who aimed at a perfect 100, MCQs were equally or more important as each mark mattered. This massively related to CUET as well, for it was in a MCQ format with a serious lack of resources at a reasonable cost. Many mock tests costed 1000’s of rupees which becomes a serious problem for many underprivileged students. Many of the education sites also had wrong answers which mislead students alot.

I see serious potential in MCQKaro to solve all these hurdles which plague an aspirant’s journey. This initiative by my friend and roommate Keshav Kapoor (Founder of MCQKaro), is a right step towards affordable educational solutions for 12th grade students who want to focus on reaching pinnacles of success. The website contains all previous year MCQs of boards, which becomes a major help especially when it’s organised and all in one place. The overlap between boards and CUET is fairly large and I would say, a good preparation for the boards would ensure a great CUET score.

I would seriously recommend MCQKaro to anyone who struggles at solving multiple choice questions and even those who just want to make sure to not leave any stone unturned. They are also planning to introduce CUET mock tests along with past year papers.

Strategies for Excelling in CBSE Board Exams

1. Build a Strong Foundation

Think of your class 12 as constructing a house. The foundation needs to be solid. Make sure you understand the basics of each subject thoroughly. Don’t just memorize facts—aim to understand concepts deeply. This will make complex problems easier to tackle later on. Focus on all aspects, be it MCQs, 3 markers or 6 markers.

2. Create a Study Plan

Having a study plan is like having a map for a long journey. Break down your syllabus into manageable chunks and set specific goals for each study session. Balance your time between subjects based on your strengths and areas needing improvement. Consistency is key, so make studying a regular part of your routine. Study your weak subjects first, and leave your strong/favourite ones for the end, so you ensure completion even if you feel tired at the end of the day.

3. Practice with Past Papers

Past exam papers are like training wheels for your exam preparation. They help you get used to the format and types of questions you might face. Timing yourself while solving these papers can also improve your ability to manage time during the actual exam. MCQKaro would help you out with the MCQ part easily.

4. Hone Your Writing Skills

In subjects like Business Studies and Economics, how you write your answers is as important as what you write. Practice organizing your answers clearly and concisely. Use bullet points and headings to make your responses easy to read. This clarity can make a big difference in how your answers are graded.

5. Focus on Revision

As the exam approaches, shift your focus to revision. Summarize key concepts and make quick-reference notes. Group study can also be beneficial, as discussing topics with peers can clarify doubts and reinforce your understanding.

Excelling in CUET: Key Tips

1. Know the Syllabus Inside Out

READ NCERT. The best advice anyone could give for CUET. Familiarize yourself with the entire syllabus. Don’t just focus on one area—make sure you give equal attention to all sections. Deleted portions also form a decent chunk of the paper, about 20% usually, so make sure you look into that as well.

2. Develop a Balanced Study Schedule

A well-structured study schedule is essential. Allocate time for each subject and practice area, ensuring that no section is neglected. Regularly assess your progress with mock tests and adjust your study plan as needed.

3. Stay Updated with General Knowledge

General Knowledge is a significant part of CUET if you’re aiming for courses that require the GT. BBA FIA and BMS from SSCBS(Shaheed Sukhdev) are the biggest examples.. Keep yourself updated with current events, major national and international happenings, and general awareness topics. Reading newspapers, magazines, and online news can be very helpful.

4. Improve Your Language Skills

Language proficiency is crucial for CUET. Practice reading comprehension, grammar, and vocabulary regularly. Engage with a variety of reading materials.. Good language skills not only help in CUET but also in your future academic and professional endeavors. Past year papers are your saviour here.

5. Take Advantage of Mock Tests

Mock tests are like dress rehearsals for the real exam. They help you get used to the exam format and timing. After each mock test, review your performance to identify areas that need improvement.

Achieving success in CBSE Board Exams and CUET is a journey that requires dedication, organization, and a positive mindset. Trust in your abilities, stay focused, and keep pushing forward. Remember, every challenge is an opportunity to grow and learn.

As a student at SRCC, I’ve experienced firsthand the rewards of hard work and perseverance. Believe in yourself, stay committed to your goals, and success will follow.

Best of luck to all of you! Your hard work and determination will pave the way for a bright future.
